British Empire Mural

British Empire Mural

ACT members attended a number of seminars at Queens University on the contribution to war from those around the British Empire.

The stories of the sacrifice given by those from many different nationalities, religions and races were no different than the sacrifices made by our own countrymen which we commemorate often.

It was decided by the Greater Shankill ACT Area Action Gro…up to design and erect a mural to pay tribute to those from around the British Empire who fought and died for our freedom.

The mural was unveiled at Northumberland Street a short time ago by Philip Orr, Professor John Brewer and Dr William Mitchell. Thanks to everyone who attended and also to Philip Orr who will be giving a talk on soldiers from the British Empire at the ACT Initiative Building.

The Greater Shankill ACT Women’s programme hosted a workshop by Beat Carnival at our central office. As you can see from the pictures, the group made lanterns for the forthcoming ‘Light up the Road’ parade on Friday 1st December at 7pm 2017. This will precede the ‘Tree Lights Switch On’ by well-known local comedian Tim McGarry at 8.30pm 2017.
